1.32.0

Beta Features Now Available in the Main App!

Over the past several months, we’ve been testing some exciting features in our Beta app. Today, we’re thrilled to announce these are now available in the main app for everyone! Thank you to everyone who tried them early and provided feedback.

The Beta app version will now remain aligned with the main application until the introduction of the next set of beta features. However you are welcome to continue to use the Beta app, to try the latest features when they are available! Stay tuned to our Changelogs for future updates.

As a reminder, here are the highlights of the new features:

Quickly Fix Mistakes with the Undo Stack

A highly anticipated feature is finally here - undo and redo support! The Undo Stack captures complete snapshots of your entire project state, including drawings, reports, cable inventories, selections, and everything in between. This means you can easily step backward and forward through your recent edits, knowing that everything will stay perfectly in sync. With up to 50 undo snapshots stored locally, you'll be able to explore your project's evolution with ease. As an added bonus, Pro users get access to the visual Undo Stack History timeline, allowing you to jump to any point in your project's timeline instantly.

Create Library Items From Scratch, Archive Old Items, and More

The Library Editor has gotten some big quality of life updates! You can now create library items directly, eliminating the need to duplicate an existing item as a starting point. Additionally, it is now possible to archive not only individual library items but also entire manufacturers and brands - a great way to clear out extra gear you no longer need. You can also change the category of a library item via a new drop-down menu in the Library Item Config pane.

Jump-start your reports with new templates

BETA APP

Streamline Report Creation with New Templates

In this Beta update (accessible at beta-app.gearconnect.ca), we have added a new unified Create Report dialog that makes starting new reports easier than ever! Previously, you either needed to manually configure the columns and filters on your reports, or use one of the templates that were only accessible from various locations across the app. Now, all report templates are accessible from one convenient location in the My Reports pane, helping you jump right into your documentation or data editing workflows.

The new dialog features some pre-built templates, such as cable counts, individual gear details, and our brand-new networking template. And of course the ability to generate one of our three base report types (Gear, Ports, and Connections) as a new report, without having to copy an existing one first.

Whether you're documenting a complex network setup or organizing cable runs, the Create Report dialog helps you jump-start your documentation even faster!

A New Report Network Template

As part of the new easier way to generate reports, we've added a brand-new Networking Template specifically designed for network infrastructure documentation. This specialized template makes it simple to quickly see all the IP addresses, subnets, and VLANs on your gear and ports.

This new networking template introduces a dynamic filter that stays in sync with your drawing, automatically updating which ports and gear have network properties. Unlike before, you no longer need to manually filter by IP addresses - a process that could have fallen out of sync as your gear's network properties changed.

Likewise, this new dynamic filter and auto updating was also brought over to the Cable Counts report, so you no longer need to re-generate it after you assign a brand new cable to your project!

App Icon Refresh

You may notice some refreshed app icons in this release as we've given our app icons a slight facelift! The updated design maintains the familiar GearConnect aesthetic while providing a cleaner, more uniformed icon set across the entire app.

Step through your projects with undo / redo!

BETA APP

Quickly Fix Mistakes with the Undo Stack!

We're excited to announce a highly anticipated feature now available on the Beta site - undo and redo support! The Undo Stack captures complete snapshots of your entire project state, including drawings, reports, cable inventories, selections, and everything in between. This means you can easily step backward and forward through your recent edits, knowing that everything will stay perfectly in sync.

Accessible at beta-app.gearconnect.ca, every action you make creates a snapshot saved efficiently using delta updates (small changes that only include the modified information), ensuring fast save and restore times while keeping everything in sync.

Make a bulk change in a report that affects dozens of gear in the drawing? No problem! Undoing while in Report mode will keep your drawing up to date as well. Accidentally change the colour of a layer, affecting several items in both the drawing and reports? A single undo step will revert everything back to its proper place.

In addition, the Undo Stack also tracks all your report changes, including visible columns, filtering, and grouping, making it a powerful feature no matter where you are in the project.

The app will group all changes made within the same time window into a single step, making navigation through your project history both intuitive and efficient. For example, creating 4 connections in quick succession will be grouped into one undo step, allowing you to easily revert all changes at once. With up to 50 undo snapshots stored locally, you'll be able to explore your project's evolution with ease.

As an added bonus, Pro users get access to the visual Undo Stack History timeline. This dialog provides an overview of your project changes with detailed action cards showing what happened and when. You can avoid undoing one step at a time by jumping to any point in your project's timeline instantly from this view as well.

The Undo Stack requires the features of Local Mode to function, so you'll be prompted to enable it when first trying to undo a change if you haven't already.

You can learn more about the Undo Stack on our docs site. We hope this new feature, in combination with the existing Version History, gives you the confidence you need to fix mistakes while editing your projects!

Select / Deselect All Ports

In addition, we've made some quality of life improvements and squashed some bugs to help streamline your workflow in this release.

You can now select and deselect all ports across all port tables in the View All Details dialog, as opposed to having to select all per table. This allows you to hide all ports much faster than before, which is especially useful for cleaning up your drawing as any ports with active connections will remain visible - a great way to quickly hide unused ports!
