File Menu

The File Menu is accessible on every page of GearConnect. It contains several options for managing projects and files. Some options are disabled depending on the current state of the application.

New

Creates a new project. This will prompt you for a new project name and create a new project with that name. It will then open the project for you.

Save

Manually save the current project, including a version history snapshot. This is also done automatically every five seconds after the last change.

You can also save by clicking on the save status in the top right corner of the screen. Learn more about save states on the Save Status page.

Save Report

When on the Report Page, this will save the current report to with any changes you’ve made.

Note

You can not save a stock report, you must first Save Report As to save stock report in the project.

Save Report As

When on the Report Page, this will save the current report as a new report in the project. You will be prompted for a new report name.

Open…

Takes you back to the Projects Page to open a new project.

Version History (Pro feature)

Opens the Version History dialog. This will show you all the version history snapshots of the current project and allow you to restore to a previous version. Also accessible from the Ctrl+H keyboard shortcut.

You can also delete previous versions from this dialog if you need to clean up your version history.

Import Project… (Pro feature)

Allows you to import a project from a file on your local machine, in a gcf file format. These files are created when you export a project.

When you import a project, it will check if it’s an existing project already in your account and if so will ask you if you want to update the existing project or create a new project.

If not, it will simply create a new project with the imported data.

Tip

This is a great way to keep version histories of your project longer than the default 100 versions that are kept on the server.

Export

Various export options for the current project. Some are only active on certain pages.

Project File

Exports the current project to a gcf file format. This file can be imported back into GearConnect at a later date or shared with others.

Drawing (JPG)

Available on the Draw Page. Exports the current drawing to a JPG image file.

The background of the image will reflect the app’s current theme (light or dark).

Drawing (PNG)

Available on the Draw Page. Exports the current drawing to a PNG image file.

The background of the image will reflect the app’s current theme (light or dark).

Drawing (SVG) (Pro feature)

Available on the Draw Page. Exports the current drawing to an SVG image file.

The background of the image will be transparent, regardless of the app’s current theme for easier integration into other applications.

Report (CSV)

Available on the Report Page. Exports the current report to a CSV file.

Report (Excel) (Pro feature)

Available on the Report Page. Exports the current report to an Excel file.

Print

Depending on what page you are on, this will do different things.

• Draw Page: Prints the current drawing with a title block. See Printing and Exporting for more information.
• Report Page: Prints the current report with a heading and additional information. See Printing and Exporting for more information.

Logout

Logs you out of GearConnect and takes you back to the login page.
